"These shoes are absolutely gorgeous. I bought a pair in both black and brown. They actually inspired me to dress well for the first time in my life. There are a few caveats though. I walk to work. I walk about a mile each way, five days a week. It has been about a month and a half, and the black shoes that I wear most of the time, are pretty beat up. The heal already needs to be replaced, but I think that would happen to most shoes in this price range. Since falling in love with grown-up clothes, I have done a lot of research and have decided to buy hand made shoes next time. I will however, be bringing these shoes along and asking for a replica. Those shoes will most likely cost 400 dollars. If you aren't planning on wearing these every day, I would recommend them for sure. I never smelled any strange smell, as suggested by other reviews. I just thought they smelled new - and thought that was just fine. They are very comfortable. I plan on having a new rubber put on the heal and rotating between other shoes more often so I can keep them alive for at least a year. If I had to buy a new pair of these shoes every 2 months, I think they would be worth it. I love them. They make me feel like superman."

Agree with the other reviews
"These shoes do emit a strange chemical odor. That being said, the look is too cool to pass on. Really funky styling, and they come with an extra set of black laces if the red ones are off-putting. But I think everything about the style is beautiful. The contrast in the smooth, perforated, and textured leather, the brown and black stripes along the sides of the heal, and the unexpected red laces combine to make the shoe truly unique. They are slightly dressier in person than the photo would suggest. I'm hoping that the chemical odor emitted by whatever the shoes have been treated with disappears with time. If that proves to be the case, I would be willing to amend my rating to five stars."

Looked Cool, smell funky
"So when I saw these shoes in the store, I thought they looked pretty awesome and apparently other guys did as well. The sales person told me that this had been a popular shoe and it was selling out.
The Oxford look is great and love the detail in the transition from a smooth leather to a textured leather. I also liked the look with the red shoe lace if you wanted to do it, never thought of changing the dress shoelaces before only my sneakers. There is also a cool brown trim detail on the sole and heel of the shoe, which makes it stand out. Lastly because it does have a heel to it, the shoe makes a bit of a click clack noise, so if you prefer rubber soles, this probably not the shoe for you."

Stylish shoe / Horrible chemical odor
"I recently ordered the Steve Madden Lesko Oxford in black size 12 and to my dismay the shoes emitted a toxic chemical (solvent-like) odor which is overpowering. I placed the shoes outside and hope that the odor will lessen. After reading several blogs, it appears this is a somewhat common complaint with SM shoes over a period of years. I will return these to my local DSW and look to purchase either Cole Haan or Johnston & Murphy shoes. This will be my last purchase of SM shoes despite the great modern design and price."
