" I was looking for a casual shoe - ideally a sneaker that didn't look too athletic - that I could wear all day.
I have low-back problems and after a few hours in anything without sufficient shock absorbance and arch support I get shooting pains stemming from my tailbone.
Some inserts and insoles allow me to postpone the agony but my only truly comfortable footwear collection consisted of snow boots and rugged sneakers.
I liked the look of both the Dr. Scholls Jamie and Jennie sneakers and once I read the customer reviews for both - all extremely positive - I was sold on the Scholls.
But I couldn't decide which model or color to buy.
I prefer shoes without laces (Jamie) but the colors available in the Jennie suited my wardrobe better.
I ordered Jennie in Denim in my usual size - 8.5B - and when they arrived I was thrilled! They were even more adorable and comfortable than expected. Sadly, however, they were too long so I packed them up for exchange by mail right away.
Unfortunately it took me several weeks (ok - close to two months) to get to a FedEx drop-off and by the time my return was received, the Jennie Denim in an 8 was no longer available.
(By the way, all the customers who submitted reviews wished they had bought the shoe in every color so get them while you can!)
I ordered the Jennie in Black Stripe and my disappointment over the Denim debacle was soon forgotten.
They look great with boot-cut jeans and are classy enough to wear with long dress slacks to an informal dinner party.
AND - much to my delight - you can remove the laces and the shoes still fit like a dream (the tongue is built in).
The shoe's interior is so smooth and elastic that socks are optional either way.
Oh - and Neoprene is water and stain resistant.

Sorry, ladies—I'm returning these.
" These shoes look much better on-screen and I'm not sure what's "soft" about them: The leather is quite stiff, and the style is considerably less delicate than I'd expected. The back of the shoe and the heel are as pictured (nice shape; pretty curve) but the toe is much more square than it appears on-line, there's less toe peeping, and the straps are much wider. (A view from above would have given me a better sense of the design.) It is not what I'd consider a (typically) "feminine" shoe: Except for the heel, it's almost clunky. The embossing is decent, but the leather is not high-quality and the buckle is cheesy. I wouldn't say the shoe looks terribly cheap, but it's not as elegant or well-made as I had hoped ... and not nearly as comfortable. While the heel is a height I could wear all day, the slant made my knees hurt as soon as I put the shoes on, but I have fairly high arches. (I'm not sure whether that is a factor.) Sorry, ladies—I'm returning these. However, they are by no means hideous and might feel great on you, so look for alternate views and, if you can, try on another Nickels "soft" shoe in a similar style to see how they fit before ordering on-line. (The DSW price is good.) "
